The Mitacs Globalink Research Internship 2024 represents a Canadian initiative aimed at empowering and educating international students through the instruction of Canadian Research Methods and techniques. This internship program, available to students worldwide, extends a 12-week research opportunity within Canadian universities. Under the guidance of Canadian university professors and faculty members, participants engage in diverse fields such as science, engineering, mathematics, humanities, and social sciences. The program, fully funded for international interns, encompasses a wide array of interdisciplinary and collaborative research projects, enabling students to explore projects both in specific and general categories.

Spanning nearly 70 universities across Canada, this fully-funded internship initiative also involves numerous academic partners from around the globe. These esteemed partners, including organizations like Universities Australia, Brazil’s Araucaria Foundation, The China Scholarship Council, Columbia’s Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Fulbright Canada, and Universities UK International, contribute to and support the Globalink internship program.

Distinguished as an exceptional internship experience in Canada, this program facilitates the convergence of students from various universities to collaboratively tackle projects. Beyond the project outcomes, participants gain transformative experiences, as they interact with peers from diverse countries and institutions. This collaborative environment fosters the creation of a global network among Mitacs Globalink alumni, encouraging cooperative efforts towards a more promising future. For example, a student from Harvard collaborated with researchers from Queen’s University to develop an instrument for swift pathogen screening in Lyme disease. Similarly, researchers from the University of Alberta and Yukon University join forces with mining companies to rehabilitate vegetation in Yukon mines.

The Global Research Internship for international students stands as a fiercely competitive endeavor, designed to attract gifted researchers affiliated with Mitacs partners in Canada. The overarching goal is to forge connections between Canada and emerging global research talent. As part of this initiative, Mitacs affords interns the chance to participate in industry events, government functions, and professional development courses during their time in Canada. These opportunities enhance interns' knowledge and skills, providing a holistic experience of the benefits inherent in the Mitacs Globalink Canada internship program. Notably, data indicates that 95% of interns hold positive views regarding the impacts of this internship. Additionally, alumni seeking further education in Canada can also strive for the Globalink Graduate Fellowship, extending the benefits of this enriching experience.
