The Higher Education Commission (HEC) conducts the Higher Education Aptitude Test (HAT) for candidates seeking scholarships or admission to MS/MPhil and PhD programs.
The HAT is conducted by the Education Testing Council (ETC) to ensure a fair and transparent selection process.
Eligibility
- Candidates who have applied online for any MS/MPhil or PhD programs or HEC scholarships through the e-portal are eligible.
- Candidates who plan to apply for future scholarship programs or seek admission in MS/MPhil or PhD programs at Pakistani public and private universities can also register.
Test Categories
The test will be conducted in five categories, and candidates are advised to register accordingly based on their 16 years or equivalent education.

Registration Process
- Candidates should visit HEC's ETC e-portal (http://etc.hec.gov.pk) and complete their profile in the "My Profile" section.
- Submit the application using the "Higher Education Aptitude Test" option on the left-hand sidebar of the online portal.
- HEC will only consider submitted applications for HAT. Incomplete or saved applications will be rejected.
- Download the bank fee challan from the ETC's online portal.
- The registration fee for HAT is Rs. 2,000 per candidate.
- The fee needs to be deposited to Habib Bank Limited (HBL).

- After submitting the fee, upload the scanned copy of the paid fee challan on the portal.
- Bring the original applicant’s copy of the paid fee challan, roll number slip, and original CNIC/Passport on the test day.
Deadline
The last date for online registration is 10 May 2023.
Validity
The test score will be valid for two years (for scholarships and admissions in MS/MPhil and PhD programs).
